We were thrilled to be the charity of the week recently for the BBC Radio 4 Charity Appeal. The appeal was broadcast on July 13th on-air, and two further times over the course of the week. It is available to listen via the BBC website and BBC Sounds.
Our presenter for the appeal is friend of CHASE Africa and Grammy and Brit award winning singer Joss Stone, who will be telling you about one of our wonderful Backpack Nurses, Judith Adienge. Judith is one of over 50 backpack nurses that we fund across Kenya and Uganda.
Our BBC Radio 4 Charity Appeal will be presented by Grammy and Brit award winning singer Joss Stone. Joss, who has sold 15 million records worldwide, has been a supporter of CHASE Africa for a number of years and is the perfect choice to present the campaign. In preparation, she really immersed herself in the story of Judith and the vital role backpack nurses have in providing access to healthcare for the most remote and underserved communities across East Africa.

A day in the life of a Backpack Nurse is varied, rewarding, difficult, sometimes dangerous, extremely busy, tiring, but essential for the most underserved communities in East Africa. Joss tells you more about a day in the life of Judith, from her preparations before travelling to a remote community to set up her outreach clinic.
Judith said of her role:
"It is good to have outreach clinics as I am able to reach more and more people, especially those far away from facilities. Being a Backpack Nurse is very rewarding as I am helping people and giving back to society."
