Distance to Healthcare Challenge

The New Year is often a time for fresh starts and small, meaningful personal goals. CHASE Africa’s ‘Distance to Healthcare Challenge’ is a chance to enjoy moving your body, in whatever way works for you, while supporting life-changing healthcare in East Africa.

It’s a feel-good challenge you can fit around your everyday life, and a simple way to turn the movement you already enjoy into real, lasting impact.

We all have hobbies, fitness goals, or routines we enjoy, but what if your movement could also make a real difference?

In rural East Africa, people often need to travel long distances, frequently 15km each way, just to reach basic healthcare and family planning services. That’s 30km for a return journey, usually on foot.

Our Distance to Healthcare Challenge invites you to cover 30km in February and beyond in solidarity with these communities and help bring healthcare closer.

How you complete it is up to you

  • Walk, jog, or run
  • Spread it out over days or weeks
  • Do it solo or invite friends, family, or colleagues

Fundraising ideas

  • Ask friends to sponsor you £30 for completing the challenge
  • Or ask supporters for £1 per kilometre
  • Or set a target such as £300, which could cover the costs of 2 Backpack nurse outreach clinics

How your fundraising helps

When you take on the Distance to Healthcare Challenge, you’re helping make that journey to healthcare shorter and safer for others. Your support allows CHASE Africa and our local partners to deliver vital services where they are needed most:

  • Mobile and Backpack Nurse clinics reach remote communities
  • Community Health Workers bring healthcare and family planning information directly to households
  • Outreach Clinics help improve health-seeking behaviour and reduce barriers to services

Every step you take translates into real-world impact.

Real voices, real impact

One of the women supported by CHASE Africa shared her gratitude for improved access to maternal healthcare after she experienced complications at birth:

When I hold my baby in my arms, I am so grateful.

Elizabeth, after receiving health support that helped her deliver a healthy baby boy.
