Maasai Women Development Organisation (MWEDO)
Founded in 2000, the Maasai Women Development Organisation (MWEDO) is a women-led, membership-based NGO working to empower pastoralist communities across northern Tanzania. With over 10,000 members and a reach of more than 370,000 people, MWEDO has extensive experience addressing the interconnected challenges facing Maasai women, girls, and youth, particularly in Kiteto, Simanjiro, Monduli, and Longido districts.
MWEDO has extensive experience delivering integrated programmes in community healthcare, education and women’s empowerment across northern Tanzania. It manages the KIPOK Medical Facility in Kibaya, Kiteto District and delivers services including maternal and child health, family planning, immunisation and mobile outreach to remote areas.
CHASE Africa started working with MWEDO in 2024. They joined the CHASE Africa Partner Forum in May 2024 to learn about CHASE Afica’s programmes and approach. A joint field visit with CHASE Africa, MWEDO and Honeyguide Foundation to Makame took place in October 2024, after which the partners worked together to develop a new project, in partnership with Makame Wildlife Management Area (WMA). This started in April 2025.
