Mount Kenya Trust works across the six counties that surround Mount Kenya. Most of the communities that live near the forest depend on it for their livelihoods either directly or indirectly. This dependency has resulted in forest degradation. Mount Kenya Trust run a forest restoration programme and environmental education programme.

CHASE Africa supported Mount Kenya Trust to start up their Community Health Service programme in 2014. The programme provides hard-to-reach communities around Mount Kenya with healthcare services, including family planning.

Through our partnership, Mount Kenya Trust disseminates extensive information on family planning and provides a range of Sexual and Reproductive Health services, enabling individuals to make informed decisions and access services, both at public and private health facilities as well as through their outreach programmes.

The programme has grown progressively covering parts of Embu, Meru, Tharaka Nithi and Kirinyaga counties, targeting areas where health facilities are limited and demand for family planning is particularly high.

With support from CHASE Africa, Mount Kenya Trust has also initiated a comprehensive young people and adolescent programme in Meru County to ensure that youth have access to both information and services about their sexual and reproductive health needs. This has been in response to high rates of teenage pregnancy, school dropout, early marriage and HIV infections.
