CHASE Africa brought together 30 participants from its partner programme staff and the local Ministry of Health for Family Planning Advocates Training in Machakos County, Kenya, from 13-15 October 2026.

Ministry of Health Master Trainers led the training which included practical demonstrations and discussions. Family planning is a core health service in our partners’ programmes. This training helped participants strengthen their understanding of different family planning methods, as well as the way they talk about it with communities.

FP training

Participants explored how to explain family planning options accurately, address concerns such as side effects without judgement and support referrals. CHASE Africa also provided family planning booklets and demonstration packs for programme teams and health facilities to use in their programmes.

Attendees will share what they have learnt with their frontline staff, such as Youth Peer Mentors and Community Health Workers. This will help our partners’ programmes to better support people to make voluntary, informed decisions about their family planning options.

FP training services

Francis, our Regional SRHR Manager, says,

For me, the value of this training was in connecting family planning knowledge with the conversations our teams have in communities every day. People need clear explanations, space to raise concerns and confidence that their choices will be respected.

The sessions reinforced how much programme staff and service providers’ attitudes, language and assumptions can influence whether someone feels comfortable asking questions or seeking health services.

Partners can put this learning into practice when they implement programmes, listening without judgement, providing accurate information and linking people with the services they need through referrals.
