Dandelion Africa was set up by Wendo Aszed in 2010. It is based in the village of Mogotio in Baringo County, deep in the dry, harsh environment of the Rift Valley.

CHASE Africa began its partnership with Dandelion Africa in 2014. Together, we increase demand for, and access to, quality sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) services.

Community Health Workers, Backpack Nurses and Youth Peer Providers deliver services through community forums and safe spaces for vulnerable women and girls. CHASE Africa has supported Dandelion Africa’s work around Mogotio, in Eldama Ravine and Marigat County.

Wendo Aszed is passionate about female empowerment and achieving gender equality. She recognises that real development and progress will only be possible if women are able to take control of their own futures and gain true equality, opportunity and influence at all levels of society.

As well as its health programme, Dandelion Africa also run a women’s enterprise programme and some environmental activities.

In 2018 Dandelion Africa opened a new maternity hospital and expanded their campaign to include the fight to end female genital mutilation (FGM)

In 2022 Dandelion Africa initiated the Girls for Leaders, Boys for Change Project. It engages men and boys through community-led discussions focusing on issues related to masculinity, and male risk-taking behaviour, and promoting understanding of and support for women’s sexual and reproductive health and rights. Messaging is delivered at youth meeting points such as pool table dens, motorbike taxi parking bays, bars, salons and casinos.

In 2023, Dandelion Africa opened a new clinic in Kajiado county, close to Amboseli National Park.
