Honeyguide Foundation
Established in 2007, the Honeyguide Foundation is a grassroots, non-profit organisation dedicated to community-based conservation in Tanzania. Honeyguide has built a strong reputation for supporting sustainable conservation outcomes that are led and owned by local communities.
Honeyguide focuses on strengthening community-owned Wildlife Management Areas (WMAs) across Tanzania. The organisation partners with WMAs to provide technical, management and business support, helping local communities develop and test conservation models that can be replicated nationwide. Currently, Honeyguide works with 13 WMAs, covering around 2.4% of Tanzania’s land area.
Honeyguide Foundation has been working with the Makame Wildlife Management Area (WMA) for several years. Their support has focused on empowering local communities to independently manage their land, combat poaching, develop sustainable revenue streams and improve local community health and education.
In 2025, CHASE Africa partnered with Honeyguide Foundation and MWEDO on a pilot health and community development project in Makame WMA. The project has been extended for a further three years starting in April 2026.
